VSOP programme strives to revive and reinforce non-formal adult education research.
The goal is to create a co-operation network between universities and popular adult education organisations. Seminars for researchers in the field are organised annually.
The VSOP programme has also been able to support researchers through grants.
Proposal for a research programme has been made in cooperation with different universities. The proposal for a reseach programme of Popular Education 2004 - 2008 is called Popular (Adult) Education in Movement. The targets of the research programme are people and citizens, education, and movement. The programme suggests an alternative to the canonizing and market-serving research: it aims to apply the critically historicising approach.
